Designing Structural Interventions to Address Social Determinants of HIV

Course Description:

Social Determinants of Health (SDH), such as racism, homophobia, lack of education, poverty, and inadequate housing contribute to most HIV-related disparities in the United States, and directly impact knowledge of HIV status, linkage and retention in care, and viral suppression. Structural Interventions (SIs) can assist health departments in addressing SDH by developing interventions that focus on these social, economic, policy, and environmental factors. They can also provide effective mechanisms for organizational change. This two-day course uses didactic and interactive exercises to apply SIs to HIV programs. 

Focusing on the HIV Prevention in Care Continuum, participants will use a logic model developed specifically to implement SIs in their work.

NOTE: This is a pilot course. Participants will have opportunities to give feedback to the trainer as they work to improve the course.
