Shared decision making has received increasing attention in health communication as a means of providing patient-centered care for preference-sensitive decisions. Given the many options available to women choosing a contraceptive method, as well as the importance of individual preferences in the acceptability of different methods, the shared decision making approach is well suited to the family planning context. This webinar will provide family planning providers with an overview of the application of shared decision making to contraceptive counseling, including evidence supporting this approach, how to apply it in practice, and how to anticipate and address potential barriers to implementation.
